Services
Services designed around you
Whether you’re after the freedom of a low maintenance lifestyle or the added reassurance of help when you need it. We offer a range of services designed around your individual needs, including:
- Cleaning your home
- Picking up groceries/errands
- Taking you to GP and hospital appointments
- Bathing and dressing
- Laundry
- Companionship when out and about
The domestic and personal care packages available at Retirement Living PLUS developments are tailor-made to suit you. The service is delivered by people you know — and you only pay for what you use. Also, the level of help can go up or down. If you’re ill, for example, you might want support for just a few days.
Good food on site
All our Retirement Living PLUS developments have in-house restaurants or bistros. Ideal for when you don’t feel like cooking or want to catch up with friends.

We're always open and transparent around costs
All our homeowners pay an annual service charge. It’s paid by direct debit every month and reviewed each year. This charge allows us to take care of the day-to-day running of the development, such as maintaining the shared areas and gardens for you.
Service charges are reviewed on an annual basis with all the owners and are subject to change depending on increases or decreases in costs, such as switching energy suppliers. The service charges are ‘pass through’ costs which we do not mark up in any way.
You’ll find costs in some developments are higher than in others. This reflects the range of facilities and services on offer – such as restaurants/bistros and salons, garden maintenance, laundry services and the size of the on-site team.
In addition to a service charge, you’ll also need to pay ground rent, which can typically cost £400 to £500 a year.
Two examples of our service charges
For a typical Retirement Living apartment (based on Atwood House in Sanderstead), the latest service charge is £48.93 a week for a one-bedroom apartment and £73.36 a week for a two-bedroom apartment.
For a typical Retirement Living PLUS apartment (based on Chesterton Court in Ilkley), the latest service charge is £138.27 a week for a one-bedroom apartment and £184.31 a week for a two-bedroom apartment.
These figures are correct up to 30 June 2021.
Do service charges make it more expensive than in my current home?
That will depend on your individual circumstances, but in many cases, service charges are lower than like-for-like costs in a previous property. Heating costs are also often lower due to our modern construction methods and the more manageable size of the new property.
Recently used McCarthy Stone Resales for the sale of our apartment at Robert Adam Court in Alnwick. Would thoroughly recommend them to anybody who is thinking of selling – it costs a bit more than if you use a local estate agent, but is worth it for a) the wider access to the target market for these apartments through their network, and b) the specific knowledge and expertise of the House Manager. In our case Philip, the Manager at Robert Adam Court, was extremely helpful and played an important part in the sale process. Many thanks.
Robert Adam Court, Alnwick
“I would particularly like to thank House Manager, Gillian Wright at Grove Court, not only for her help during the sale process, but her dedication to her role during the five years my mother lived at Grove Court. I would also like to thank Brendan Mann for his help with negotiating the sale of the property. I would highly recommend McCarthy Stone Resales.”
Mr Smith, Grove Court
“The resales team have done a brilliant job in finding me a purchaser at a sensible selling price. I am very happy with the service I received and believe that the teams specialist knowledge about the intricacies of retirement living along with a client base of people interested in this particular type of property has led to a successful outcome all
round. Thank you so much for all your help.”
Carolyn Chapman, Rowleys Court
“Our House Manager Kerry is a real superstar. She’s always there to help straight away, no matter how big or small the issue is. It is so comforting to have somebody there who you know you can rely on. She makes life so easy for us.”
Mr and Mrs Clarke, Homeowners, Walsall
“We are very lucky to be very active and able to do things we love in life. We’re regularly off on holiday. We have nothing to worry about now as we can lock up and leave knowing our apartment is part of this fabulous development with 24-hour security.”
Mr and Mrs Fleming, Homeowners, Anstruther
“Lifestyle Living apartments are absolutely perfect for those looking to downsize with no other requirements. We’re living as independently as we always did, but now with much more flexibility and fun!”
Mr and Mrs Hale, Homeowners
“It’s fantastic to see everyone come together and join in with the celebrations, the residents have enjoyed it immensely (especially the margaritas!) It’s occasions such as these that truly demonstrate the vibrancy of our retirement communities.”
Allison Crews-Orchard, House Manager
“I’ve always been a sociable person, so it’s lovely that there are always other people around and lots of activities to get involved in, like the coffee mornings, film nights, and of course, the art classes. There is always something going on at the development.”
Mrs Hampton, Homeowner, Poundbury
“I’d 100 per cent recommend downsizing into a McCarthy Stone property – you won’t look back.”
Dermot and Sue Bradley, Homeowners
“Living here is so fantastic because we are completely independent with the added bonus of getting together with other homeowners as and when we want to.”
