When Susan Dakers’ mother moved to to East Scotland to be nearer to her and the rest of the family, she had no idea that her retirement community would have such an impact on her life.
When my mum decided to move from West Scotland to be nearer to me, we couldn’t have hoped for a nicer retirement development than The Hailes. She was one of the first homeowners to take residence in 2016 when the development first opened. From the outset we were extremely impressed with the development, the communal spaces were well thought-out, stylish and comfortable.
As new homeowners began to move in, the community bonded well, and with the help of the House Manager regular social activities were organised. Mum really embraced life whilst living at The Hailes, enjoying weekly Fish ‘n’ Chip suppers and movie nights in the lounge with her neighbours. The homeowners are very active and even set up their own gardening club- ensuring the grounds of the development are in full bloom all year round.
During the years that followed Mum embraced independent living at The Hailes – making some lovely friendships and many happy memories.
Sadly, in recent months, Mum became unsteady on her feet and after a couple of falls her health deteriorated. As she was unable to live independently, Mum moved to a nearby care home to receive the support she needed.
I was already aware of McCarthy & Stone Resales from when Mum originally purchased the apartment. I thought their expertise in this specialised market would help sell the property as efficiently as possible.
Sarah, the House Manager referred me to Jos in Resales who began the process of putting mum’s property on the market. We had some initial interest within the first few days, however as the country went into lockdown all activity petered out. I resided that there was very little we could do but wait for restrictions to be lifted.
In the Summer, as restrictions eased the Resales team remarketed the property to its database of eligible buyers. The Hailes is renowned locally for being an extremely popular development, there was significant interest in mum’s property almost immediately.
Sarah did a wonderful job at showing people around mum’s apartment. She was the perfect person to answer any questions about the development and explain all the social activities that the homeowners enjoy. I think this makes all the difference to potential buyers considering this type of move.
We successfully agreed a sale within a few short weeks, and I was very pleased with the price achieved.
The transaction went through very smoothly, and the Resales team kept me informed throughout.
I would highly recommend McCarthy & Stone Resales, their expertise and understanding of retirement living makes a huge difference in finding the right buyer. Plus, having the support of the House Manager to conduct viewings makes all the difference.
